The National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), part of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, leads the fight against HIV/AIDS. Since its inception in 1992, NACO has worked to prevent HIV spread, offer free testing and treatment, and reduce stigma. Through its National AIDS Control Programme (NACP), NACO has reduced new HIV infections and improved care for affected individuals, especially vulnerable populations. NACO also champions the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017, ensuring people living with HIV have rights and are protected from discrimination. NACO’s mission is to create a healthier, stigma-free society with universal access to HIV care.
The Telangana State AIDS Control Society (TGSACS), in collaboration with the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), is dedicated to reducing HIV/AIDS transmission and stigma across Telangana. TGSACS provides free testing, counseling, and antiretroviral therapy (ART) while promoting safe practices, awareness, and prevention through community outreach. By focusing on education, condom promotion, and accessible STI treatment, TGSACS empowers individuals to make informed health choices. Rooted in care, support, and inclusion, TGSACS strives for a healthier, stigma-free Telangana where quality HIV/AIDS support is accessible to all.
The HIV epidemic in India is primarily concentrated among high-risk groups such as sex workers, men who have sex with men, injecting drug users, and clients of sex workers, though it is increasingly affecting the general population. One-third of districts report high HIV prevalence. To control the spread, the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP-III) strengthens prevention, care, support, and treatment efforts. These services are integrated and expanded to sub-district and community levels to ensure reach. Through targeted interventions, condom promotion, and awareness campaigns, TGSACS and NACP-III aim to reduce new infections and improve care for those living with HIV.
